Ken Holt
Ken Holt, son of the famous reporter Richard Holt, is the central character in a series of 18 mystery stories for boys written by Sam and Beryl Epstein under the pseudonym Bruce Campbell. Ken is welcomed into the Allen family in the first adventure (The Secret of Skeleton Island) and subsequently joins the Brentwood Advance newspaper which the Allens own and produce. With Ken as a reporter and Sandy Allen as photographer, the pair go on to have a number of adventures and solve mysteries, both within the small town of Brentwood as well as interstate and abroad.
While labelled as mysteries, I personally think that these books are more adventure rather than detection. There are some clever plots in a few of the books, including my favourites, The Mystery of the Vanishing Magician, and The Clue of the Phantom Car. Overall an interesting series aimed at boys.
