Kowmung River Fire Trail

★★★☆☆
Kowmung River Fire Trail is a popular moderately difficult 4WD track that links Jenolan and Wombeyan Caves (caves to caves). The track condition varies, but at the time of my visit was well graded and quite easy to drive. Low range gearing is required as there are a number of steep ascents and descents along the track, as well as two creek crossings, with the crossing at Kowmung River the most challenging.
Camping is available at either end of the track at Mount Werong campground, just off Mount Werong Road, as well as at the Boyd River campground on the Kanagra Walls Road. There is also a camping spot at Dingo Dell, about halfway along the track. While usually fairly quiet, the location was incredibly busy on the long weekend that I visited, with all three campgrounds full!
