On the first day of my son's school holidays I took him to explore Sydney's north shore, following Berry Creek to Berry Island, then the foreshore to Balls Head. This is a slightly shorter version of the walk that I had previously done from Wollstonecraft to McMahons Point via Balls Head.

After a quick play at the Wollstonecraft station playground, it was into the rainforest at Berrys Creek which we followed down to the harbour via Gore Cove Track. My son really enjoyed the playground at Berry Island, especially the climbing equipment. After a circuit of Berry Island, it was on to Balls Head where we had our picnic lunch, or what was left of it after a very cheeky magpie stole some of our food! We finished our enjoyable day at Waverton Station.
