West Head Army Track

★★☆☆☆

This short but moderately difficult track explores the wartime history of West Head. During World War 2, the West Head Battery housed two 4.7 inch ex-naval guns and provided the first line of a system of defences protecting Pittwater, the Hawkesbury Rail Bridge and Woy Woy Rail Tunnel. An intact observation post and ammunition bunker carved into the cliff can also be visited on this trek. The nearby West Head Lookout provides some stunning views of Pittwater, Lion Island and Barrenjoey Head.
