Jump Up Loop
Tibooburra, NSW
58.5 km (3 hrs )
★★★☆☆
The far west of New South Wales holds a very special place in my heart. I have been visiting the corner country since 2010, and have been back four more times (and counting). The rugged beauty of this arid landscape, coupled with the sense of space and solitude is very refreshing for me. This is exemplified in this track which explores to the north of Tibooburra.
The Jump Up Loop is part of a longer drive that begins in the east near Mount Wood (Gorge Loop), but due to the threatening rain at the time of my visit, I opted to only do the eastern half. This takes you on a well maintained sandy track, unlike the eastern section where a 4WD is required for the more rocky terrain. Several points of interest break up the drive, including the South Myers Dam Bird Hide where you can spot migrating birds, The Jump Up Lookout atop one of the mesa like formations and the Jump Up Loop Track (walking) at Olive Downs. This short walk is worth the effort as it allows you to go at a slower pace and see this unique country.
