It was wonderful to visit Kosciuszko National Park in winter. The blanket of snow transformed this already spectacular place into something truly special. My first hike in the snow was one of my favourite tracks that I had done the previous summer - the walk to Rainbow Lake. This short trek takes you to a delightful alpine lake (covered in ice in winter), created by damming Diggers Creek as a source of water supply for the former Kosciuszko Hotel.

The track begins at Kosciuszko Road and winds its ways through snow gum forests and snow covered alpine meadows. Note that there are no markers and so good navigation skills are required. I was fortunate to have done this track in summer, so I knew which way to go and was confident to follow in the footsteps of those who had done the track before me.
