The Valley of the Winds walk is my favourite track in Australia. The contrast of the soaring red rocks against the deep blue sky is stunning and one that I always look forward to when I travel to the outback. I have been fortunate to have visited this place a number of times and can't wait to be able to go back.
This was my fourth visit to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and the Valley of the Winds walk, which I did with my family and friend. Even in the height of summer when temperatures soared into the 40s during the day, the walk was pleasant in the early morning. The track winds its way around the spectacular domes of Kata Tjuta (meaning many heads in the local language) and visits two lookouts, before descending to the surrounding plains for the return trip.
Do be prepared if you are planning to do this track. This is desert country, so take lots of water, cover up and only walk in the cool of the day. Note that the walk is closed at Karu Lookout if the temperature exceeds 36 degrees Celsius.
