Mt Remarkable, SA
3.0 km (1.5 hrs )
Heading back home from an adventure along the Oodnadatta Track, my brother, friend and I dropped in to explore the Alligator Gorge in South Australia's Mount Remarkable National Park. This short hike (known as the Gorge Circuit) descends into Alligator Gorge and visits two of the gorge's highlights - The Terraces and The Narrows.
The track follows the narrow creek bed at the foot of the sandstone gorge, which in places is only a few metres wide. There is a lot of rock hopping and the circuit can only be done in dry weather. It is a fascinating place, with sheer orange-red cliffs, varied vegetation and native fauna.
