★★★☆☆
Mount Wood is a former sheep station, located within Sturt National Park, approximately 27 km east of Tibooburra. The 1890's homestead and the former shearers' quarters are now accommodation that can be booked. A more budget friendly campground is also located nearby, with picnic tables, gas barbecues and toilets.
The shearers' quarters and woolshed are well worth a visit to see how life on these vast pastoral properties was like. The woolshed, dating back to 1913 in particular was interesting to see, with relics of the equipment used to shear and process the wool. The shed operated until 1972, with up to 26,000 sheep being shorn during to peak years.
A short drive to Wool Scour Road leads to the Outdoor Pastoral Museum, where historic relics and more modern recreations show how water was extracted and the land used for grazing. The walking beam pump and whim are two early examples of how water was extracted from wells.
