After a week of unsettled weather and a thunderstorm on Friday, the weekend cleared to a perfect sunny day with blue skies and hardly a cloud in sight. I made the most of the perfect day by heading north to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to explore the upper reaches of Cowan Creek. I had promised to explore this section of the national park on my last visit when I did the Gibberagong Track.

Cowan Creek varies from shallow, mangrove bounded stretches to sections of narrow channels above which soar high sandstone cliffs. The creek is tidal, which greatly helped me on my return journey when the tide was turning. The water was clear and at the time of my visit, there were no motorised craft here, just a lot of other canoes and kayaks enjoying the beautiful weather. It was an enjoyable paddle and a wonderful day to be out on the water.
