Black Mountain is encompassed within Kalkajaka National Park in northern Queensland. The mass of black granite boulders piled on top of each other creates a landscape that is both unusual and surreal. It was seeing photos of this mountain that inspired me to add this destination to my trip to Cooktown.

Black Mountain is located 25 km south of Cooktown on the Mulligan Highway. There is a pullout with a viewing area on the western side of the mountain, but there is no access to the mountain itself.
