★★☆☆☆
Cooktown is located approximately 240 km north of Cairns on the Cape York Peninsula. The town was established in 1873 as a supply port for the goldfields along the Palmer River on the where James Cook beached his ship, the Endeavour, for repairs in 1770. The town has a yearly re-enactment of this event.
There are quite a number of heritage listed buildings in the town, which at is peak had over 7,000 residents. My friend and I visited a number of these on our walk along the waterfront, before we took a drive to view some of the sites nearby (Cooktown Surrounds).
