★★★☆☆
The Combo Waterhole was the tragic setting for the drowning of a swagman shearer who was trying to escape from troopers after being caught with a suspected stolen sheep. This was in turn the inspiration for one of Australia's most famous songs, Waltzing Matilda, written by Banjo Paterson and which was first performed near Winton.
Combo Waterhole is located within Combo Waterhole Conservation Park and is reached via a short walk through the flat, open countryside, dotted with coolibah trees that line the waterholes. The walk is well signposted and has numerous information signs that give insights into the geology, flora and fauna as well as the history of the people and of course, the famous song.
