Erith Coal Mine

★★★☆☆

Erith Coal Mine is now located within the Bundanoon section of Morton National Park. Operating from the 1860s until the mine's closure in 1915, the mine supplied coal to power the steam engines of the railways. While failry extensive, the coal was of poor quality and the difficult access made the mine challenging to operate.

This short walk visits the historic mine, located adjacent to a waterfall. The track passes through three distinct areas of vegetation - woodland, heath and rainforest. Interprative signs along the way describe the flora, fauna and geology of the area, as well as the history of the mine. I very much enjoyed this morning walk through the National Park, as well as visiting the nearby attractions of Lovers Walk and Fern Glen.
