The sheltered banks of Spring Creek once provided Aboriginal people with a variety of foods, medicines, raw materials and fresh water. From the 1870s this area featured the Boles family dairy known as Glenbrook Farm, with a Chinese market garden along either side of Spring Creek from the 1900s. While subdividing farms for development, the area around Spring Creek was deemed unsuitable due to periodic flooding. The area was instead purchased by Kiama Municipal for public use.

The resulting Spring Creek Wetlands was established in the 1990s, protecting the unique mix of fresh and brackish water habitats that support a myriad of animal life. There are a number of informative signs along the walk and a bird hide at the freshwater lake from which to observe the wildlife. I spent an enjoyable hour exploring this area on my way through Kiama.
