The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain range in South Australia, stretching for over 430 km from Port Pirie in the south, to Lake Callabonna in the north. The ranges are composed largely of folded and faulted sedimentary rocks, which have a very striking appearance.

One of the best ways to experience the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park is from the scenic Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorge Roads. These two unsealed roads pass through the heart of the national park, with stunning views from various lookouts and amazing rock formations in the gorge. The roads are unsealed, but were in good condition when my friends and I travelled here. Some of the creek crossings in Brachina Gorge can be sandy and rocky, so best done in a 4WD vehicle.

There are a number of campsites along the drive, with the resort at Wilpena Pound offering the best facilities (at a price!). Note the fuel along the circuit is only available at Wilpena Pound Resort.
