Ellenborough Falls

★★★☆☆
The impressive Ellenborough Falls are located in Elands, in the New England Area of New South Wales. There are two walks at the falls - a walk to The Knoll which follows the rim of the escarpment, providing views of the falls at the end, and a steep descent to the base of the falls.
Due to time constraints, I was only able to do the walk to the Knoll. This easy walk begins at the lookout where there are the best views of the falls, before heading into the dense forest. Approximately 100 m along the way is the turnoff to the base of the falls walk, a set of stairs that descend some 50 m down into the gorge. The Knoll is almost directly opposite the falls and features a viewing platform. Parking and picnic facilities are available at the start of the walk.
I had the opportunity to revisit the falls in Apr 2025 and this time my brother and I made the trek to the base of the falls (Lower Falls). The 641 stairs provides for relatively easy access down the side of the steep cliff and into the temperate rainforest near the base of the falls. The walk is well worth the effort as you are rewarded with stunning views of the falls, as well as the beauty of the verdant rainforest.
