I had a day in Australia's second largest city while I was waiting for my ferry to depart to Tasmania. Parking at the Royal Botanic Gardens, I headed on foot to the CBD to explore the historic city centre. My destination was the Royal Exhibition Building, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed building built in 1879–1880 as part of the international exhibition movement, which presented over 50 exhibitions between 1851 and 1915 around the globe. The Royal Exhibition Building is one of the last surviving examples of exhibition buildings of that era.
There is much to see in Melbourne, and I barely made a dent in what there is to see, but I did enjoy my day out. Highlights were of course the Royal Exhibition Building as well as the iconic Flinders Street Station.
