Perth was founded by Captain James Stirling in 1829 as the administrative centre of the Swan River Colony. This was the second settlement in Western Australia, after Albany (established in 1826). Perth is now the fourth largest city in Australia, but it is also one of the most isolated cities in the world.
This was my fourth visit to Perth, with my last visit in 2007. The city had grown substantially during that time after the modern mining boom, with many new buildings in the city centre. Unfortunately, my dad was quite tired after our morning visit to historic Fremantle, so while he stayed at the beautiful Kings Park, I made my way into the CBD to explore on foot. I revisited some familiar places and took the opportunity to explore some new ones as well. I very much enjoyed the new development at Elizabeth Quay, as well as the botanic gardens at Kings Park.
