Upper Lane Cove River

★★★★☆
Having previously paddled Lane Cove River to Sydney Harbour earlier this year, I returned to Lane Cove River National Park to paddle the upper reaches of the Lane Cove River. This stretch of the river is above the weir at Delhi Road and so is not subject to tides, making for an easy and relaxed paddle. The river winds its way through bush, so is also quieter and full of life compared to the downstream section. I had the opportunity to see many birds, turtles, Eastern water dragons and even a goanna swimming across the river.
Lane Cove River National Park has extensive picnic grounds with facilities and a cafe near the Delhi Road entrance. There is an entry fee and the park is only open during the day.
