The Fretus Hotel ruins are located at Calabash Point, above the intersection of Calabash and Berowra Creeks. Built sometime in the early 20th century, the sandstone building features a long corridor with quite large rooms on each side. While it may have been intended to serve as a hotel on the hopes of a new road opening between Berowra Railway Station and Berowra Creek, the building has no history of ever operating as such. Instead, the site was occupied for a short while by John Frater and his family, before being abandoned and falling into ruin. The building walls are mostly intact, but little else remains of the site today.

This is an unmarked walk along a firetrail that begins at the locked gate at the end of McCallums Road in Berrilee. There is a small parking area near the gates, but no facilities. The firetrail is easy to navigate, although it does narrow once it descends quite steeply towards Calabash Point. There are some limited views of Berowra Creek along the way and the variety of native flowers was quite amazing to see, even during the time of my visit in early winter.
