The Adventure Way is a 1,400 km driving route from Brisbane to the South Australian border, through the southern Queensland outback. The road is now fully sealed, although once west of Cunnamulla, many sections are just a narrow sealed strip in the middle of the road. Part of the route follows the Natural Sciences Loop, a 1,000 km loop around some of the remote outback towns with unique and interesting features such as opal field, artesian bores and fossils from now extinct dinosaurs.

My friend and I were planning to follow the Adventure Way from Cunnamulla to Thargomindah, before heading north west to the Diamantina Lakes. Unfortunately, rain meant that we had to detour to Jundah and Longreach so that we could travel on sealed roads. There were a few new and interesting places that we saw along the way, including Lake Bindegolly, Eromanga, famous for being Australia’s furthest town from the ocean and taking the opportunity to sign the visitors' book Stonehenge style, where we wrote our names in stone.
