Lake Bindegolly National Park conserves one of the most important wetland systems in south-west Queensland, with a string of lakes—Bindegolly, Toomaroo and Hutchinson, providing a haven for thousands of waterbirds that flock to these inland oasis to feed and to breed.

My friend and I did the Lake Bindegolly Circuit on our visit. The walk heads over the scrub-covered sandhills to the lake's edge, where a short detour takes you on a small peninsula to a viewing area. There was a fair bit of water in the lake when we visited, with a few birds on the lake shore. We did, however, see far more flies than birds!

A small picnic area with covered table is located at the start of the walk. The closes facilities are in Thargomindah, 43 km to the west.
