Three Steps is one of Mount Isa's lesser known scenic destinations. Located just north of town, this is a photogenic rock formation consisting of three rock tiers (steps), with a short track leading to a lookout on the southern cliff face.

There is no marked track that leads to the Three Steps, making navigation somewhat tricky. The tracks that my friend and I travelled on ranged from good to poor, with some sections requiring careful navigation due to ruts and large washouts. The tracks are only suitable for 4WD vehicles. There are no facilities at the Three Steps; the closest facilities are located at Lake Moondarra (16 km north) or Mount Isa (8 km south).
