Elsey National Park is located 120 km south of Katherine near Mataranka. The highlight of the park is the Mataranka Thermal Pool, with its crystal-clear water at a constant 34°C in temperature. Mataranka Thermal Pool is reached by a short walk through the jungle of palms and pandanus.

For those with more time, the Riverside Walk begins at the Mataranka Thermal Pool and follows the Roper River for 16 km. It connects to several short walks that visit several historical sites, as well as scenic spots along the river. Camping is available at either the Jalmurark Campground or the private campground at Mataranka Homestead. Note that swimming is only available at the Mataranka Thermal Pool or the nearby Bitter Springs due to the presence of crocodiles.
