Located only a 15 minutes walk from Launceston is Cataract Gorge Reserve. The First Basin is a popular destination featuring parks, picnic areas, a swimming pool and a number of walks, one of which is included in Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks.

I spent an hour exploring this scenic spot on my visit to the north of Tasmania. While I did not have enough time to complete the full 6 km Duck Reach track, I die enjoy my time exploring the First Basin at Cataract Gorge.
