Home to the mysterious Min Min lights, the central western part of Queensland is a fascinating place to explore. While the legendary Min Min lights have been explained as an inverted mirage due to temperature inversions (Fata Morgana), it in no ways diminishes from the raw and harsh beauty of this region.

My friends and I travelled from Winton to Birdsville (745 km) along the mostly unsealed roads. There are quite a number of points of interest along this route and we had a fascinating time exploring them. This is desert country though, so being thouroughly prepared is a must, especially when travelling in the quieter times of the year (summer).
