Birdsville Track
Explore with me two of the most iconic 4WD tracks in Australia - the Strzelecki Track and the Birdsville Track.
John, Dad, Boguslav and I headed out for a grand tour of 4 of Australia's deserts. Our first destination was the interesting Mutawintji NP in the far west of NSW. We spent the second morning of the trip exploring the aboriginal heritage and rocky gorges.
Heading north, we stopped by the ghost town of Milparkinka before exploring the granite boulders surrounding Tibooburra. The following day was a scenic drive of the remote Sturt NP, before discovering one of the highlights of the trip - an inland lake at Fort Grey Basin.
Heading west, we crossed dune after dune of the Strzelecki Desert, before heading north to Sturt Stony Desert and the awesome Simpson Desert. Arriving in Bridsville in the morning gave us the opportunity to really explore this part of Australia, with two trips out to Big Red - the largest of the dunes in the Simpson Desert.
From Birdsville, we took the most famous track of them all, the Birsdville Track, south through the Tirari Desert to the former rail town of Marree, then into the hills of the Flinders Ranges.
Rounding off the trip was a visit to see the sunset over Lake Mungo, before the journey home.
