Rocky Crossing

Williams River Picnic Area, NSW

★★★★☆

One of the best walks in the Barrington Tops National Park is the Rocky Crossing Track. This walk from the Williams River Picnic Area to Rocky Crossing follows a gently sloping valley along the Williams River through the dense ancient rainforest that dominates the lower slopes of the Barrington Tops. There are a number of interesting side trips along the way including Lions Rock, Pool of Reflections and a giant strangler fig. The highlight is Rocky Crossing. The waterfall and series of cascades at Rocky Crossing makes for stunning photos, of which I tried to do justice. This track would have to be the one I enjoyed most on my short holiday in the Barrington Tops area.

For those short on time, an option is to head up the Lagoon Pinch Forest Road, where you can access the shorter track to Rocky Crossing (2.5 km return). The nearby Blue Gum Loop Track is also good either as an extension to this this walk (which is what I did), or as a walk in its own right.
