Convict Trail

★★☆☆☆
The Convict Trail follows the convict built Great North Road (1825 to 1836), designed to connect Sydney with the Hunter Valley and Newcastle. The sections of the Great North Road at the Bucketty Wall Precinct and Devines Hill near Wisemans Ferry offer some of the best easily accessed views of this feat of engineering. The Bucketty Wall Precinct (1830 - 1831) is a short walk that features a curved sandstone block wall, original road pavement and a restored culvert on an section of the Great North Road that has been bypassed by the newer road.
The Great North Road to the north (Bucketty to Wollombi) can still be driven. If heading that way, keep an eye out for a number of original sections of the road, including sandstone culverts and retaining walls.
