At 534 m elevation, Mount Kembla dominates the escarpment and provides some fine views of the Illawarra coastline from its summit. Unlike the nearby Mount Kiera, the mountain escaped the tourist trappings when the planned road to the summit was halted at the sandstone outcrops at the base of the plateau.

The track to the summit is of moderate difficulty, with the climb up the ridge line rewarded by some magnificent, uninterrupted views of Lake Illawarra and the surrounding coastline. The Mount Kembla Ring Track at the base of the mountain is highly recommended for the opportunity to explore the rainforest, woodlands and history of this area.
