The Dungeon
Kwiambal NP, NSW
4.2 km (2 hrs )
★★☆☆☆
This was my first visit to Kwiambal National Park, having found the place on a map and added it to the itinerary for my camping trip with my dad in the summer of 2020. After the short walk to Macintyre Falls, we headed to Lemon Tree Flat campground for the night. This is also the start of the walk that follows the Severn River to the Dungeon Lookout and the Junction, where the Severn River meets Macintyre River.
The walk was easy to begin with along the flat river banks, but with little traffic had become quite overgrown and more challenging as it headed uphill to follow the edge of the gorge that forms the Dungeon. I had spent so long getting to the Dungeon Lookout that I decided not to continue the extra 1.5 km to the Junction, opting instead to return to camp while it was still light. The views from the Dungeon lookout were impressive and the walk is well worth the effort.
Lemon Tree Flat was a nice location to camp on the banks of the Severn River - a large grassed clearing set amongst magnificent river gums with toilets and picnic tables.
