The Needles are a series of granite columns, each about 80 m high, that tower over the valley below. The walk in the Gibraltar Range National Park begins near Mulligans campground and picnic area. After passing the historic slab built Mulligans Hut, the track heads through blackbutt forest before entering a rainforest, complete with palms, coachwood, fern trees and leeches!

The walk to the Needles can be combined with the longer, 9 km Tree Fern Forest walk, one of the iconic walks of the area. Another great alternative is the nearby Washpool Walk.
