Dundas Coach Road
Norseman, WA
25.0 km (2 hrs )
★★☆☆☆
The Dundas Coach Road was the original road connecting the former Dundas townsite to Norseman and Esperance, with the first 'Royal Mail Coach' arriving in Norseman in 1896. The Old Coach Road is now a heritage trail featuring 10 sites, with interpretive signs and short walks along the 25 km dirt road. Many of the sites relate to the gold mines to which prospectors flocked to in the early 1890's. Some of these mines are still active, including the one located at the foot of Beacon Hill in Norseman. Highlights of the trail include the lone grave, Dundas Rocks and the remains of the old ghost town.
The dirt road was well graded and easy to drive when my dad and I visited. The road is best done in a clockwise direction. Note that the former Dundas town site is a ghost town with no facilities.
