Yango Walk
Yengo NP, NSW
6.0 km (2.5 hrs )
★★★☆☆
The Yango Walk follows and old logging track that circles Mount Yango. The track appears not to have been maintained for a long time and is quite overgrown. There were sections of the track that had completely disappeared, making navigation quite difficult. I am sure that my friend and I would have been completely lost if it were not for my GPS.
There were some magnificent views near the halfway mark, where the forest had thinned. The vegetation also varied quite dramatically on the walk, ranging from the hardy, drier bushes and trees of the sandstone outcrop, to the forests of blackbutts and grass and even dense rainforest in the gully where Yango Creek flows after rain.
Yango walk is accessed off the Management Trail along the Big Yango Loop Trail. This trail requires a high clearance 4WD and access to the locked gate is only provided if you book to stay at Big Yango or either of the two campgrounds.
