★★★☆☆

Mount Buffalo is one of the more interesting alpine regions in Victoria's high country. Unlike other nearby peaks, Mount Buffalo is an isolated mountain plateau, rising from the low lying surrounding valley. A sealed road provides access to the plateau. Much of the plateau is above 1,300 m, rising to 1,723 m at the highest peak - the Horn. There is much to see on Mount Buffalo, both on the lower slopes as well as on the plateau. Those who are particularly keen can even make the ascent on The Big Walk (11 km).

On this visit, I explored a new area for me at Cathedral Saddle (1,540 m elevation). There are walks on both sides of the road - the Le Souef Plateau to the north east that I visited on this walk, and the Cathedral - Hump Walk in the south west, that I also did. The Le Souef Plateau is reached via a short walk and has a number of interesting rock formations, including Mahomets Tomb, Corral Peak, The Castle and The Sentinel. There are some nice views from the top, particularly of the Cathedral and Hump across the road.
