Connecting the Tasman Peninsula to the Forestier Peninsula, the narrow isthmus known as Eaglehawk Neck was one of the lines of defence for the notorious penal colony at Port Arthur. A line of dogs chained at the narrowest point (about 100 m wide) guarded this choke point, now immortalised in a sculpture of one of the dogs. There is much to see at and around Eaglehawk Neck, including the remarkable Tessellated Pavement, the rock formation of Tasman's Arch, the Blowhole and a deep cleft in the rocks known as Devils Kitchen.
