The Granites
Tibooburra, NSW

★★★☆☆
This interesting track winds its way around the granite boulders that gives the area its Aboriginal name of Tibooburra (place of rocks). The Granites are an unusual feature of Sturt National Park and well worth visiting, together with the nearby attractions of The Jump-Ups, Mount Wood Homestead, Cameron Corner and my favourite, Fort grey. There are numerous interpretive signs along the way and the track is well marked and easy to follow. Camping is also available here and the nearby Golden Gully where mining artefacts are displayed is worth a visit.
This is a remote area of New South Wales and the desert location boasts the hottest temperatures recorded in New South Wales. Be well prepared if you decide to venture here, and be aware that the roads are only accessible in dry weather.
