The Snowies Alpine Walk is a bucket list, multi-day hike from Guthega to Thredbo via some of Australia's most scenic alpine country in Kosciuszko National Park. The walk can be broken into four sections - Guthega to Charlotte Pass (which I had previously done with my friend as part of our Mount Tate Circuit), the iconic Main Range Track, which takes in Australia's highest peaks, Charlotte Pass to Perisher Valley (this walk) and Perisher Valley to Bullocks Flat.

Due to a forecast of rain / snow later in the week, I decided to forgo doing the complete walk and instead chose the section which was new for me between Charlotte Pass and Porcupine Rocks. This was a beautiful long hike, following the ridge line above the Thredbo Valley, and was a mix of snow gum forests and alpine meadows. The track alternates between granite rocks and steel mesh, making for a relatively easy (but long!) hike. There are signposts every 1 km and chairs to rest at some stunning lookouts or in the shade of the snow gums. Some sections of the walk were awash with colourful wildflowers, especially silver daisies and trigger plants.

While the walk continues on to Perisher Valley, I chose a shorter option via Wheatley Link for my return journey. This is an off track walk, following the cross country ski poles. The last section following Kosciuszko Road allowed me to see some of the beauty of this valley at a slower pace.
