Pioneer Drive
Murray-Sunset NP, VIC

★★★☆☆
Murray-Sunset National Park is the largest national park in Victoria. It is located 500 km from Melbourne in the north west of Victoria and covers and area of 6,330 km2. Much of the national park is remote and requires a 4WD to access, however, the Pink Lakes area, arguably the most famous attraction, is readily accessible by 2WD vehicles.
Pioneer Drive is a 16 km loop around three of the four pink lakes. The unsealed road is of 2WD standard and is best done in an anti-clockwise direction, beginning just north of Lake Hardy. There are nine designated stops along the way, with information about the area, its flora and fauna, as well as history of the salt mining (stop 3). The three walks located close to Pioneer Drive - Lake Hardy Loop, Kline Nature Walk and Lake Becking Nature Walk are well worth doing. Those with a 4WD can explore the more remote areas of the national park, including Mount Crozier T450, Pheeny's Track and Rocket Lake.
